What is cateye snake?

The cateye snake, also known as the cat-eyed snake, is a venomous species of snake found in Central and South America. Its scientific name is Leptodeira annulata.

It is called the cateye snake because of its distinctive eyes, which are large and round, much like a cat's eyes. The pupils of the eyes are elliptical, which helps the snake to detect prey in low light conditions.

The cateye snake is mostly found in forested areas, but it can also be found in agricultural land and areas with human habitation. It is a nocturnal species and is active at night, but it can also be found during the day.

The snake feeds on small lizards, amphibians, and rodents. It immobilizes its prey by injecting venom through its fangs. The venom is not lethal to humans but can cause pain, swelling, and discomfort.

The cateye snake is not considered a threat to humans, but it should still be treated with caution. If encountered, it is best to give the snake a wide berth and not provoke it.
